ChatGPT Plus went from about 120 pictures a day to 80 on 30 September, and the upgrade prompt now promises up to 28. Finish the picture that limit stopped, right below, on GPT Image 2.5.
Three pictures creators posted on X on 9 September as GPT Image 2.5 output. The generator above runs the model your ChatGPT Plus pictures come from, with no daily count on Pro and Max.

OpenAI does not publish a number for the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit, so the only count anyone has is what ChatGPT Plus users see in their own accounts. Here is what they reported, with the date each change appeared.

ChatGPT's pricing page, read on 15 October 2026, lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month with "more complex and accurate image creation" and image generation with Thinking. It gives no count for the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit, and neither does the Help Center.
ChatGPT Plus users reading their account data saw an image allowance of 120 with a reset time beside it. Others said they had been making 100 to 150 pictures a day without ever meeting a wall.
On 30 September a Plus user watched the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit drop from 120 to 80. Others hit the wall after 20, 35, 40 or 50 to 60 pictures, and the Free plan's upgrade prompt changed to "up to 28 advanced images per day".
When you meet the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit, ChatGPT shows when you can make pictures again. Users quote waits of 9, 16, 20 and 23 hours, counted from their own usage rather than from a fixed hour.
The price and wording come from OpenAI's pricing page as read on 15 October 2026. The last column is what people on each plan counted for themselves, with the date they said it.
| Plan | Price | OpenAI's wording | What users counted |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Free | $0 | Limited image creation | About 20 a day until early October; one a day from 4 October; counted per device from 6 October |
| ChatGPT Go | $8 a month | More image creation; higher limits than Free for image generation | No published count, and no reliable report yet |
| ChatGPT Plus | $20 a month | More complex and accurate image creation; image generation with Thinking | About 120 a day until 29 September; 80 on 30 September; upgrade prompt says up to 28 |
| ChatGPT Pro | From $100 a month (Pro 100, 200, 500) | Unlimited and faster image creation, subject to abuse guardrails | One Pro user was paused after 120 in a day; the pause lifted at 4am UTC |
| Veida Pro / Max | $89.99 / $149.99 a month | GPT Image 2.5 with no credit cost per picture | No daily count: every retake and every next picture is included |

Each entry links to the first place it was reported. Apart from the Pro 200 change, OpenAI announced none of the cuts below; they surfaced as the same complaint from many accounts on the same day.
Free users found they could attach one photo a day before ChatGPT locked the chat. Several said they used to make about 20 pictures a day on the free plan.
r/ChatGPT, 20 AugustOpenAI released GPT Image 2.5 inside ChatGPT. The same model runs in the generator on this page; its launch facts are on the GPT Image 2.5 page.
OpenAI: Introducing ChatGPT Images 2.5OpenAI's Help Center: new Pro 200 subscriptions include less usage than before at the same $200 a month. Subscribers active between 22 and 29 September keep the old allowance until 29 October.
OpenAI Help CenterChatGPT Plus users report 120 a day falling to 80, then hitting the wall after 25 to 60 pictures with 12 to 24 hour waits. The Free plan's upgrade prompt now reads "up to 28 advanced images per day".
r/ChatGPT, 30 SeptemberFree accounts that made about 20 pictures a day get one, and the run counts even when ChatGPT refuses or fails it.
r/ChatGPT, 4 OctoberChatGPT starts showing "signing out won't reset the image generation limits for this device". A second account on the same phone or browser meets the same wall.
r/ChatGPT, 6 OctoberA Pro subscriber reports a pause after 120 pictures that lifted at 4am UTC, while a ChatGPT Plus user on the same thread was getting about 100.
r/ChatGPT, 10 OctoberOpenAI's Help Center is plain about it: you cannot bypass a limit or raise it through a setting. Here are the three ways that still get you your next picture when ChatGPT Plus stops, and the one that stopped working on 6 October.

ChatGPT's own account data shows the pictures you have left and the exact minute your ChatGPT Plus image generation limit refills. On the web, open your browser's developer tools, go to Network, reload, filter for init, and read remaining and reset_after under image_gen.
Since 6 October the count is kept per device, so whether you are on Free or ChatGPT Plus, signing into another account on the same browser meets the same wall. OpenAI's Help Center adds that a limit cannot be lifted through a setting.
Pro starts at $100 a month, five times ChatGPT Plus, and is the plan OpenAI lists with image creation without a cap, subject to abuse guardrails. Pro 200 and Pro 500 carry more usage than Pro 100.
The generator at the top of this page runs GPT Image 2.5. Signed out, your first 1K picture is free with no account. On Pro ($89.99) and Max ($149.99) you keep going with no credit cost per picture and no daily count, and a credit run that fails gives its credits back. See the plans.
Your prompt from ChatGPT Plus works here as it is. Nothing to rewrite.
The wording you were refining in ChatGPT Plus is the work. Copy the last version of it, or ask ChatGPT to print the full prompt it sent.

GPT Image 2.5 is already selected. Signed out, your free picture is 1K; on an account, pick 1K, 2K or 4K, square, portrait or landscape.
Your picture renders in this tab and saves to your Activity, so you can step away while it finishes.
Change one phrase and run it again. On Pro and Max each retake is included, so the retakes that used up a ChatGPT Plus day cost nothing extra here.

Read the ChatGPT Plus threads and the same people keep turning up: the ones who make pictures in batches, every day, as part of something larger.

One creator makes about 200 pictures for each video. At 28 to 80 a day under the new ChatGPT Plus image generation limit, one video takes most of a week.

A strip needs the same character in panel after panel, and every retake to keep the face right counts against the day. One ChatGPT Plus user making comic strips took two 24-hour timeouts back to back. To fix one panel, the ChatGPT image editor changes that panel and leaves the rest as it is.

A two-person marketing team on ChatGPT Plus hit the same wall in the same week. Product shots, social sizes and the variations a client asks for add up to dozens of pictures before lunch.

Concept art is many pictures of one idea: the same valley at dusk, at night, in snow. That is the work the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit cuts off halfway through.
About 120 a day until 29 September 2026, then 80 or fewer. Since 30 September, ChatGPT Plus users report hitting the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit after 25 to 60 pictures, and the Free plan's upgrade prompt says ChatGPT Plus gives up to 28 advanced images a day. OpenAI publishes no number.
No. ChatGPT Plus has a daily allowance that refills on a timer, and it was cut at the end of September 2026. OpenAI's pricing page lists image creation without a cap only on Pro, from $100 a month, subject to abuse guardrails. On Veida, Pro and Max run GPT Image 2.5 with no count per day.
One a day for most free accounts since 4 October 2026, down from about 20. The free count is also kept per device since 6 October, so a second account on the same browser does not reset it. The upgrade offer shown at the wall is up to 28 a day on ChatGPT Plus. Here, signed out, your first GPT Image 2.5 picture is free with no account.
OpenAI does not say. Its Help Center only says Go has higher limits than Free for image generation, and Go costs $8 a month against $20 for ChatGPT Plus. No Go user has posted a reliable daily count yet.
Between 9 and 23 hours in what ChatGPT Plus users report, counted from your own usage rather than from midnight. ChatGPT shows the reset time when you hit the wall, and the reset_after value in your account data gives the exact minute.
Not inside ChatGPT. OpenAI's Help Center says a limit cannot be bypassed or raised through a setting, and since 6 October switching accounts on the same device no longer works. Your options are waiting for the reset, moving from ChatGPT Plus to Pro, or making the picture with GPT Image 2.5 somewhere without a daily count.
OpenAI lowered it without an announcement around 29 to 30 September 2026. Many ChatGPT Plus users saw the same drop on the same day, from about 120 a day to 80 and lower, so it is not your account. The count also moves with load: OpenAI's own wording to users is that limits can be lower during peak periods, which is why two days of the same work can stop at different numbers.
Not any more. Since 6 October 2026 ChatGPT counts image generation per device and shows "signing out won't reset the image generation limits for this device".
Open ChatGPT in a desktop browser, press F12, go to the Network tab, reload, and filter for init. In the response, the image_gen entry shows remaining and reset_after.
OpenAI lists Pro with image creation without a cap, subject to abuse guardrails. One Pro subscriber was paused after 120 pictures in a day, the same count ChatGPT Plus users had before the cut, and the pause lifted at 4am UTC.
Free users report that they do: a run ChatGPT refuses or fails still uses up the day's picture. On Veida, a failed run gives its credits back.
On Veida Pro ($89.99 a month) and Max ($149.99), GPT Image 2.5 runs with no credit cost per picture and no daily count. A free Veida account makes pictures on our own Veida AI Image v1 with no credit cost.
Credits are shared across everything Veida AI runs. You see the cost before each run, and a failed job is never charged.
